Half-term special

Future Work/Life is a weekly newsletter that casts a positive eye to the future. I bring you interesting stories and articles, analyse industry trends and offer tips on designing a better work/life. If you enjoy reading it, please SUBSCRIBE HERE, and share it!

It’s half-term so I’m taking a week off work and won’t be a writing a full newsletter. Instead, here are ten things I’ve found interesting over the past seven days.

The BBC’s WORKLIFE series is a fairly consistent feed of useful content. This article, ‘Coronavirus: How the world of work may change forever’, in particular, has some useful insights from top academics and business folk like Zoom’s CEO, Eric Yuan, and GitHub’s COO, Erica Brescia.

And here’s another highlighting ‘The surprising traits of good remote leaders’.

This is an excellent article from Tushar Agarwal - 'How does the "death of the office" affect the average person?’.

Here are 'Five imperatives for resetting the future of work agenda’, from Mercer and the World Economic Forum:

I shared a fascinating article by Amy Edmondson in last week’s newsletter and this short video on the TED website is also worth a watch if you’d like to understand ‘How to lead in a crisis’.

HBR have some excellent podcast series, including the Ideacast and Azeem Azhar’s Exponential View. The Anxious Achiever is a relatively new addition and as someone who has had their own fair share of financial anxiety, I enjoyed this episode, Success, Stress, and Money: Lessons from a Financial Therapist’.

If you have a subscription or any free articles left, this article from the HBR Review focuses on ‘What makes some people more productive than others.’

A look forward to 2025 on CNBC in this article, What the workforce will look like in 2025 as it morphs due to pandemic’.

A nice tidbit from Nir Eyal on the importance of a tidy desk:

And finally, I’ve written about how the pandemic has disproportionately affected younger people and Andrew Hill sums up why nicely in his article, ‘The hidden skills gaps employers must learn to bridge’ (behind the FT paywall but read it if you can).

See you next week,

Ollie
